in order to は単なる to不定詞より目的をはっきり示すかための言い方。否定の「〜しないように」は in order not to の語順で、not の位置がポイント（× in order to not）。動詞の主語と目的の主語が違うときは in order for A to do を使う。so that + 主語＋動詞（助動詞つき）と書き換えられるが、so as to は in order to とほぼ同義のやや硬い表現。
