headquartered は名詞 headquarters（本社・本部）が動詞化したもので、ほぼ常に受動態「be headquartered in/at（〜に本社を置く）」の形で使う点が固有。能動で「to headquarter a company」とはまず言わない。based in（〜を拠点とする）とほぼ同義だが、headquartered は「本社・中枢機能の所在地」を改まって示すビジネス語で、企業紹介や報道で多用される。headquarters は単複同形（語尾の s を落とさない）。
