make sense は物事を主語にして「筋が通る・理解できる」を表す（This makes sense.）。一方、人が主語で「〜を理解する」と言いたいときは make sense of + 名詞 と of が必要。It makes sense to + 動詞 は「〜するのは理にかなっている」という判断の言い方。add up も似た口語表現。
