「わたしは兄より背 が高い」 「この山は日本 で一番高い」 「彼と同じぐらい早く走れる」 — このように 物や人を比較 する 表現を第 6 章で学びます。
英語では 形容詞・副詞の形を変えて 比較 を表します。 形は 3 つ:
原級 (基本形): tall、 fast、 important
比較級: taller、 faster、 more important (~ よりも高い)
最上級: tallest、 fastest、 most important (一番高い)
比較級・最上級の作り方 (-er / -est と more / most) を区別 できる
比較級 + than で 「~ よりも 〜」 を言える
最上級 + the + in / of で 「(範囲 の中で) 一番 〜」 を言える
as 〜 as で 「~ と同じぐらい 〜」、 否定形で 「~ ほど 〜 でない」 が言える
不規則変化 (good-better-best、 bad-worse-worst 等) を覚える
ポイント: 比較表現は 入試必出 の重要単元。 第 6 章をしっかり押さえると、 自分の感想 や意見 を詳しく言えるようになります。
短い形容詞・副詞 (1 音節、 2 音節 の一部) は 語尾に -er / -est をつけます。

大事: -er / -est の単語は more をつけない (× more taller、 × more bigger は NG)。 どちらのパターンかは 1 つずつ覚えていく。
形がまったく変わるものがあります。 必ず覚えましょう。

ポイント: good-better-best は入試でも会話でも超頻出。 必ず暗記。
形: 主語 + 動詞 + 比較級 + than + 比較対象
「~ よりも 〜」 と 2 つを比べるときに使います。

大事: than の後ろは 「比較対象」。 「彼より」 は than him (口語)、 than he (do) (文語) の両方 OK。 中 2 では than him / her / me で OK。
形: 主語 + 動詞 + the + 最上級 + in / of + 範囲
「(範囲 の中で) 一番 〜」 を表します。 必ず the をつけます。

ポイント: 副詞 (fast、 well 等) の最上級は the を省略 できますが、 中 2 ではつけておくと安全。
形: A + 動詞 + as +原級 + as + B
「A は B と同じぐらい 〜」 を表します。 真ん中は 形を変えない原級。

大事: 「not as 〜 as」 は 「~ ほど 〜 でない」 と訳す。 「同じではない」 ではないことに注意。 つまり 「相手 のほうが上」 という意味。

ポイント: 比較表現をマスターすると、 「今日 と昨う」 「日本とアメリカ」 「兄と弟」 など、 身近なものを自由に比べられるようになります。 中 2 後半 (Ch 7-10) の学習にも頻出。
