There was / were 〜ぜわず

There was / were 〜 は There is / are 構文There is / are こうぶん の過去かこ形がたで、「〜があった／いた」と過去かこの存在そんざいを表あらわします。主語しゅごの数かずで was と were を使つかい分わけます。

単数たんすう	was	There was a temple here 100 years ago.
複数ふくすう	were	There were a lot of stars last night.

たとえば There was a temple here 100 years ago.（100年ねん前まえここに寺てらがあった）、There were a lot of stars last night.（ゆうべ星ぼしがたくさんあった）のように使つかいます。

ポイント 過去かこでも数かずの判断はんだんは同おなじ。単数たんすう → was、複数ふくすう → were。yesterday や 〜 ago など過去かこを表あらわす語かたりとセットで出でる。
