There is / There are は、「〜がある」「〜がいる」を表あらわす表現ひょうげんです。後うしろの名詞めいしが単数たんすうか複数ふくすうかで be動詞どうしを変かえます。

疑問ぎもん	Is / Are there 〜?	Are there any books?

たとえば「机つくえの上うえに本ほんがある」は There is a book on the desk. となります。後うしろの名詞めいしで be動詞どうしを決きめる点てんがポイントです。

試験しけんでは There is / are の be動詞どうしを後うしろの名詞めいしに合あわせる点てんが頻出ひんしゅつ。There is two cats. は誤あやまりで There are two cats. が正ただしい。
