thousand は million や hundred と同じく、数や a が直前に付くときは複数の s を付けない（three thousand yen、× three thousands）のが原則。「漠然と多数」を表すときだけ thousands of ... と複数＋of をとる。発音は語頭 th が無声音で「サウザンド」、d をはっきり出すのがコツ。a thousand times（何度も）など強調の比喩も多い。
