ニュアンス・使い分け
information は数えられない名詞（不可算）で、an information や informations とは言えない点が最重要。一つ二つと数えるときは a piece of information / two pieces of information とする。many ではなく much information、数を問うときは how much で受ける。動詞 inform（知らせる）の名詞形。「〜についての情報」は information about / on。
語源・由来
ラテン語 informare（in 中に + forma 形 = 形づくる・教え込む）に由来。「形づくって伝えられたもの」が原義。
